Nigerian Woman Admits Killing Her Baby In London Court.
An indicted mum wept uncontrollably in court as she admitted killing her 18-month-old baby by driving dangerously.
45-year-old Chidinma Anya, told the judge “I lost my baby” as he told her to be prepared for sentencing. On November 11, 2015, Anya was believed to be driving erratically at about 50mph in a 30mph zone when she crashed into a van.
Her baby daughter Eugenie Anigbo was fatally injured and the van driver Dean Snow was badly hurt in the crash.
She also had a three-year-old in the car with her at the time of the incident on Kings Highway, Plumstead, south London.
At a brief hearing at the Old Bailey, Anya, from Thamesmead, south London, pleaded guilty to causing Eugenie’s death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury to Mr Snow.
Defence barrister Tarquin McCalla told the court that Anya had a “history of seizures”.
He also said she was the sole carer of her three remaining children, now aged four, seven and eight years old.
Judge Michael Topolski QC ordered pre-sentence reports to be prepared before sentencing on November 9.
He warned Anya: “You do not need me to tell you how serious this is. “It could not be more serious for you, I recognize that. “But you must be prepared on November 9 for a custodial sentence.”
Distraught Anya, who is on unconditional bail, nodded and replied: “I lost my baby”.
