Governor Abubakar calls for Social Media control in Nigeria
THE Jigawa state governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar has suggested to the National Communication Commission (NCC) to eminently control of social media in Nigeria to save teeming youths.
The governor made the suggestion yesterday in his speech delivered during an opening ceremony of a five day national sensitization workshop organized by the Muslim Sisters Organization of Nigeria (MSON) for the youth of 19 northern states workshop on how to utilize social media in a positive manner at Yakubu Gowom NYSC Orientation camp Dutse the state capital.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, the governor expressed concern on the instant that social media takes attention of youth in the country.
Barrister Ibrahim Hassan explained that so many countries even some developed nation such as China, India etc has restriction on social media.
According to him “parts of the major damage of misusing social media among our youth includes taking away their attention academically, productively and religiously”.
He therefore called on the National Communication Commission (NCC) to regulate social media and allow the usefulness and importance for the benefit of the Nigerian future.
In her part the chairperson of the Jigawa state Muslim Sisters Organization of Nigeria (MSON), Hajiya Habiba Isa Dutse said hundreds of youth were attending the workshop, she added that “the main aims of workshop is to enlighten the youths on how to better their life and make good use of Social media”.
Hajiya Habiba Isah maintained that, “apart from lectures by clerics, there would be power point presentation. The participants would also be train on some skills to be self-reliant”.
The chairperson noted that “the youths of now a days spend more time on social media, and there is a lot of wrong projection in the new media that went contrary to our societal norms and values which need to be address before it further escalation”.
Habiba stated that, the sensitization workshop is an annual event, hosting Nineteen Northern states and its aims to educate the youths on how to better their life based on religious perspective and how to engage them in doing something better.
