Following the clashes between the Nigerian Army and the Indigenous People
of Biafra, (IPOB),Abia State government has urged residents to remain calm
as it is committed to protecting lives and properties of citizens of the state.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, the
government urged the Army to undertake its operation python dance exercise
with extreem caution, and warned the public not to confront armed men in uniform.

The government also expressed relief that though some persons including
innocent persons sustained injuries in the Sunday clash between the military and
IPOB in Afara Umuahia, but it was recorded,no life was lost.

“The government wishes to use this medium to appeal to all members of the
public to remain calm. We make this appeal because government has
responsibility to ensure safety of all persons resident in the state.

Abia state has been a peaceful state and it is our desire to ensure it
remains so. Therefore, we are advising all persons living in the state to
go about their lawful businesses without fear. The military should
undertake its exercise with caution while the public must not confront
armed men in uniform,” the statement read.
